Anomalouss Behaviorr of Thee Pd/d System Executive Summary Figures

The metal/hydrogen system is a key element in the construction of ecologically preferred energyconversion/storage devices. Although reduced to practice decades ago, its effectiveness requires fur-ther examination of a number of issues, among them the role that the electrode/electrolyte interphaseplays during the charging/discharging processes. In this communication the following topics are con-sidered: Thermodynamics and kinetics of the structure of the interphase, the identity and componentsof the driving force(s) for the absorption/desorption of hydrogen, and the discussion of the applicabletransport equation. Agreement between theoretical results and observed behavior is illustrated andselected design approaches affecting cell performance are explored.
